It has given me some idea of their culture andtradition. I understand that it may not be all correct and possibly majorly fabricated but it has given me something. So I guess in that sense the programme has some benefits.

Like you - I will also continue to watch it. I enjoy the prgramme. I shall just watch it in a different way I guess. It's like you said really "Take it with a pinch of salt." There are people though that believe everything that they see and read without researching it or finding out for themselves and I feel that, that is ashame really. You shouldn't really take anything on Face value, you should always look a little deeper.

The Romani Gypsy that won last week was really beautiful. I liked ow 'toned Down' she was and just natural. It was really nice to see.

Cheers for commenting Elle!Momma Moose Diarieshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06809744808045673411noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-673952930273921734.post-9546989473158136322012-02-20T08:46:52.802-08:002012-02-20T08:46:52.802-08:00Oh also, sorry, just wanted to say, I thought the ...Oh also, sorry, just wanted to say, I thought the whole programme WAS about Irish Gypsies, not Romani Gypsies. I'm pretty sure it is, they only ever mention Irish travellers. Apart from the stunning Romani Gypsy who won that contest in last week's episode. I could be wrong, that's what I thought...Ellenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-673952930273921734.post-22499400688930611262012-02-20T08:44:04.202-08:002012-02-20T08:44:04.202-08:00I think that 'taking with a pinch of salt'...I think that 'taking with a pinch of salt' is the name of the game here. We will always be intrigued by other people's cultures and traditions - at my Greek wedding there were people with their heads around the door, looking in to see what on Earth was going on. Yes, C4 have probably put a naughty spin on things, but I do find this doc very interesting, and I feel like I now have some kind of understanding regarding the Gypsy community, whereas before I had no clue, and any idea I did have was formed by previous prejudices gathered through friends and family over the ages! Certainly that's no better. I guess it's a little like 'TOWIE' or that new 'Desperate Scousewives' - programme makers find the few most entertaining people that will make for an 'outrageous' programme. By no means does that mean that all Liverpudlians are like that (I hope ;)) and people would do well to remember that in their daily lives, weather watching TV or reading a newspaper.

However, I do feel like I have gained a valuable insight into traveller life - perhaps not fully rounded and unbiased, but a helpful insight nonetheless. RE this taking kids out of school, I actually gathered FROM this documentary that it is because the way they live their lives means that a continued education is not necessarily the best path. I totally respect that. I also totally respect that these traveller girls have higher moral standards and keep a cleaner house that probably the whole population of the world.

Obviously, a personal view from someone with their own direct experience should not be taken lightly, especially as Pip seems highly offended, and C4 need to look into this. I'll still watch it though, I think it's great.Ellenoreply@blogger.com
